Dan will make/receive direct contact with a named link professional in nurseries, schools or colleges (SENCO/ Member of the Senior Leadership Team for SEND/Pastoral).

There will then be an initial consultation to plan the work (planning meeting) and once a work focus and appropriate EP involvement is agreed upon with the education setting, Dan may use one or a combination of the following approaches:

  • Consultation with parents/carers
  • Consultation with school staff
  • Collaborative group/multi-agency consultation with all stakeholders e.g. Health and Social Care as well as School Staff, Parents/Carers and where appropriate the child/young person themselves.
  • Observation of the child/young person in context.
  • Individual work with the child/young person (such as Dynamic Assessment).
  • Elicit and gathering an appreciation of the child/young person’s views.
  • Questionnaire-based assessment (such as, but not limited to, Resiliency Scales or the ABAS-3).
  • Advice and recommendations on strategies and support for interventions to support the ‘Assess Plan, Do, Review’ (APDR) process or ‘graduated response’.
  • Psychological formulation.
  • Psychological coaching for staff or parents/carers.
  • Psychological and emotional supervision for school staff to promote well-being and self-efficacy (confidence and impact in their work).
  • Therapeutic Input for the child/young person.
  • Collaborative Action Research together with you to investigate and improve school culture, policy and practice.
  • Supervision for ELSAs, Teaching-Assistants, Teachers, Head Teachers and Sencos (and other Senior Leaders).
  • Training.
  • Bespoke support negotiated with you as equal change partners to match SEND support needs.

Dan’s work is committed to enhancing the education setting’s skills and knowledge to support the child’s needs as well as the child’s own skills. His EP work feeds into the Plan, Do, Review process and is designed to support the graduated response at SEN Support and SEN Support Plus levels as well as supporting children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) already in place.
